Some common thoughts about switching electricity providers that are wrong.
- These new retail providers are not as reliable as the incumbent.
- Wrong. All electricity is delivered by the same regulated monopoly (TXU Electric Delivery, CenterPoint Energy, etc.). These companies are TOTALLY SEPARATE ENTITIES from your retail electric provider. For example, if you live in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area TXU Energy and TXU Electric Delivery are TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT companies. TXU Energy just sends you your bill. In this regard TXU Energy performs the exact same functions as the alternative energy providers, such as Cirro, Gexa, Reliant, etc...
- This will cost me up front, right?
- No way. We do not charge a transfer or set-up fee…and we don’t like anyone who does.
- I won’t save enough money.
- Hmmmmm. We get this question a lot and it confuses us. We don’t want to dig into your finances, but unless you are a multi-millionaire you should be saving money every chance you get. Of course, if you are a multimillionaire, you probably have a big house with a BIG electricity bill, so we could save you LOTS of money…and you would be helping us out a lot too. We LOVE that kind of business.

- Wrong. If you know your name and address you can switch in less than five minutes. If you don’t know your name and address, your 6-year-old probably does since you are a good parent. Have them handy when you fill out the form.

- It’s too hot/cold outside to lose my electricity while I switch.
- Hey, Smart Energy Texas is about simplicity. There’s no way we would go without electricity while waiting for someone to switch our service and you shouldn’t either. Your switch-over from your current provider to Cirro Energy will be transparent. In fact the only real change you will see will be your lower rate from Cirro Energy.
- Bubba won’t show up if I have a problem cuz he’s mad that I’m not with TXU Energy (or your local incumbent) anymore.
- Puh-lease. We’ll let TXU Energy make that argument for us. Their sales materials clearly state “TXU Energy is not the same company as TXU Electric and Gas and is not regulated by the Public Utility Commission of Texas and you do not have to buy TXU Energy to receive quality regulated services from TXU Electric and Gas.”
